Digital Domain created over 600 visual effects shots for I, Robot, among them the fully CG Sonny, built from motion capture of Alan Tudyk's performance on set. Weta Digital carried a large share of the rest: fxguide put the split at roughly 500 shots at Digital Domain and 300 at Weta, with Modern Film/Video and Rainmaker adding more.
John Nelson supervised the effects for the production, with Erik Nash at Digital Domain and Joe Letteri at Weta. Those three and animation supervisor Andrew R. Jones were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects at the 77th Academy Awards. I worked on the film as a lead Flame artist.
