Brian Helgeland wrote and directed The Order, released in some territories as The Sin Eater. Heath Ledger plays Father Alex Bernier, a priest who travels to Rome to look into the death of his order's leader and finds a centuries-old sin eater able to absolve mortal sins outside the authority of the Church. Shannyn Sossamon and Mark Addy co-star, Nicola Pecorini shot it and David Torn wrote the score.
20th Century Fox released the film on 5 September 2003. Credit listings put the visual effects with Asylum.
